TAIT signs MoU with Taipei Computer Association on trade co operation

Mumbai based Trade Association of Information Technology (TAIT) and Taipei Computer Association (TCA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on alliance for boosting Taiwan – India trade co operation in the ICT Sector. The MoU was signed between K R Chaube, president of TAIT and Ihuann Lee, Director Office of Taiwan-India Coopertaion, TCA in Mumbai on Wednesday.

TAIT view on Govt. Notification on Concessional Excise Duty

Dear Sir,
With recent attached Government Notification, Concessional Excise Duty (hence CVD) of 6% on Hard disk, CD ROM drive, DVD drive or writer, Combo drive, flash memory, microprocessors has been restricted to only to actual users for manufacture of Computer (PCs / desktops). It means that other than manufacture of Computer (PCs/desktops) all others in the IT ecosystems will have to shell out more 6.5% on their purchase of the components ( As duty structure is 12.5%).

Due to this other than manufacture (currently HP, Dell, Lenovo ) of Computer (PCs / desktops ) all other player cost will increase by 2.5% - 3% net considering these components constitute 35% - 40% of the PC. This will create non playing field and possibly malpractice in the entire system.
We at TAIT is reviewing its affect at large and the process of collecting the factual data for the appropriate representation with the concerned Government Officials is going on.
